The history of Rotariada
Rotariada is the largest sport, fellowship and charity event of the Lithuanian Rotary community, organised by Rotary District 1462 Lithuania. Every year it brings together Rotarians, their families and friends from all over Lithuania and abroad.
The first Rotariada took place in 2002, when members of seven Rotary clubs met for a friendly contest in tennis, bowling and volleyball. Over more than two decades the event has grown into one of the largest and most anticipated traditions of the Rotary community in Lithuania, attracting hundreds of participants and offering a rich programme of sport and leisure.
Rotariada is held twice a year:
- the Winter Rotariada in Druskininkai;
- the Summer Rotariada in the Lithuanian seaside region.
Charity is an inseparable part of Rotariada. Every year the event raises funds for social projects, and in recent years special attention has been given to the Lithuanian Paralympic movement. Rotariada is therefore not only a celebration of sport, but also a platform through which the Rotary community can contribute to positive change in society with real work.
Today Rotariada stands for everything the Rotary community lives by — activity, fellowship, friendship and service. It is an event where what matters most is not the results or the medals, but the people united by the wish to be together and to create value for others.

The Winter Rotariada
During the 2022–2023 Rotary year, the governor of the Rotary District of Lithuania, Jurgita Turulienė, proposed organising a winter Rotariada. The idea quickly won support and became a new tradition of the Rotary community.
Since its very first year the Winter Rotariada has been held in Druskininkai, gathering the keenest fans of winter sport and leisure every year.
